Google Play screenshot sizes, and the one asset everyone forgets.

Play accepts a wide range of dimensions, which sounds easier than Apple and is why so many Play listings look worse. Here are the limits, the sizes worth standardising on, and the 1024 × 500 graphic sitting above your screenshots.

The limits Play enforces

  • Each side between 320 and 3840 pixels.
  • Maximum aspect ratio 2:1. A 9:19.5 phone screenshot is about 2.17:1, which means a full-bleed modern phone capture is too tall for Play as-is. Design to the canvas, not to the capture.
  • Up to eight screenshots per device type.
  • PNG or 24-bit JPEG, no alpha.

The sizes to standardise on

These are the Android presets our exporter renders, taken from the same registry the product uses:

DevicePixelsMax per listing
Android phone1080 × 19208
Android tablet1600 × 25608
Google Play feature graphic1024 × 5001

There is no reason to deviate from these unless you have a specific reason to. They are inside every Play limit, they are large enough to stay sharp on a high-density tablet, and they keep one design consistent across both device types.

The feature graphic

1024 × 500. It sits above your screenshots on the listing, it is used when Play promotes your app anywhere, and it is required to publish. It is also where most listings visibly give up: a stretched screenshot, a logo centred on a flat colour, or the app name in the default font.

It is a landscape banner, so it cannot be a phone screenshot and should not try to be. The ones that work state what the app does in three or four words and show one thing. Treat it as the headline of the listing, because functionally that is what it is. We wrote more about that on the feature graphic page.

Questions

What size should Google Play screenshots be?

Play is far more permissive than Apple: each side between 320 and 3840 pixels, with a maximum aspect ratio of 2:1. 1080 × 1920 for phone and 1600 × 2560 for tablet are the sizes worth standardising on, because they are large enough to look sharp everywhere and sit comfortably inside the limits.

How many screenshots does Play allow?

Eight per device type, versus Apple’s ten. If you are producing one set for both stores, design eight and you are covered on both.

Is the feature graphic required?

Yes, for your listing to be eligible for promotion anywhere on Play, and it is required to publish. It is 1024 × 500, it appears above your screenshots, and it is the single most neglected asset in the entire Play listing.

Do I need tablet screenshots?

You need them for your app to be surfaced well to tablet users, and Play will warn you in the console if they are missing. If you genuinely do not support tablets, that warning is the correct outcome.

Can I reuse my App Store screenshots on Play?

The artwork, yes. The files, no — the dimensions differ, and an iPhone frame around an Android screenshot is an obvious tell. Re-render the same design at Android sizes with an Android device frame.
